Sheathing Waveguides in Carbon Fiber

Waveguides made of copper (8,9 g/dm²) are very heavy. Sometimes to their detriment. If the weight is to be reduced, creating thinner walls will be limited by a loss of stability. Applying strutting afterwards is perfectly possible, but for this a certain wall thickness is needed as well.

Therefore, it is more effective to plate a minimal layer of copper unto the core and apply a lightweight and inherently stable material (e.g., carbon fiber reinforced with synthetic resin) on top of it. The fortified copper layer can be split from the core after curing.
